No Driver when attempting to install printer on Ubuntu server with CUPS

tr flag

I'm setting up a 20.04 LTS Server VM on top of Unraid, and I'm attempting to share my ageing Canon Pixma MP 270 with the rest of the network using it - This printer still works and for the amount of printing I do, I'd rather not shell out for one with wi-fi just for sheer convenience if I can avoid it. And using a VM because the Unraid Docker containers don't seem to work due to not being maintained anymore.

The issue I'm having is Canon does not appear when selecting my Make after selecting the printer, so I can't continue to select a model. The VM pass through is assumedly working as it's identifying the device properly.

What I'm seeing in the web UI

I've had it working through CUPS in the past, both on a RaspberryPi and on a non-VM Ubuntu Server box, so I know it's possible. In both previous instances, it just worked, Canon was there, the printer was detected and it worked.

What I don't understand is why the printer driver isn't appearing in CUPS this time.

I've tried installing a driver (which I didn't need to do before), but the only available Canon driver for Linux I found is 32-bit only and dpkg stops the install due to my server being 64-bit

What am I missing? What else can I try to get more information to help troubleshoot this?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
