Grub GFXMODE makes boot menu font larger, but boots OS in low graphics mode

cn flag

I have a new computer with Alder Lake CPU, ASROCK main board, and 4K monitor.

I installed Windows 11 and Ubuntu 20.04. I have a working Grub dual boot menu.

The Grub boot menu has a tiny font and is too hard to read.

I added "GRUB_GFXMODE=1920x1080" to /etc/default/grub and it makes the boot menu larger as intended.

However, Ubuntu now boots in a low-resolution graphics mode, as if the 4K monitor were a 2K (HD) monitor. If I remove the GFXMODE line, then Ubuntu boots with normal 4K graphics.

Windows boots correctly in both cases.

The Grub version is 2.04-1ubuntu26.13

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
