After I plug in a USB-C device (at least two that have occurred this week, a VGA adapter, with and without the VGA plugged in, and an adapter which I plugged an SD card into) my touchpad becomes disabled on Ubuntu 20.04. I've tried a wireless mouse and that seems to work just fine, but it I continue working with that or by jumping around by abusing the tab button, the system ultimately locks up and I have to force power off by holding the power button. If I try to load up with the device still attached, I get through the grub menu (I have windows installed as well), but then the system seems to freeze at the Ubuntu logo, so I'm forced to power off, unplug, and reboot. The aforementioned VGA adapter was working a couple of months ago. I did recently switch my kernel to 5.14.15-051415-generic, to fix a problem with crashing after my laptop fell asleep. I've looked around and I can't find anything that pertains directly to my problem or has the correct diagnostics.
Does anybody know what may be causing this behavior and how I can fix it? Please let me know whatever diagnostics are needed and I'll provide those.

I tried to isolate just the stuff that came out after I plugged in the device. Let me know if more is needed.
