Asus G11CD not booting Ubuntu after first shutdown

my flag

Installed 20.04 today and hadn't finished setting up but wanted to restart to try and get my display to show with full resolution as it was only showing 1024x768. Monitor was going to HDMI through an adapter from DVI. Only way I get picture at all is through that HDMI port but now since restarting it shows the "recovering journal" messages and now this one after clicking Try Ubuntu from the USB boot says "[firmware bug]: ACPI region does not cover the entire command/response buffer"

As best I can tell, Ubuntu is having an issue with the graphics card but I can't even reinstall to simulate that initial boot like the first time because the USB boot hangs after clicking the third Continue button.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
