Ubuntu 20.04LTS installation black screen with white cursor in middle of screen

us flag

Installation from usb completes successfully and tells me to restart (I have an iMac 2010 model that I replaced the hard drive inside b/c it was a failing hard drive---new hard drive seems to boot and actually allows for a quick Ubuntu installation so all is good there). Once restarted it makes the normal start up sound like a Mac would and then goes a black screen with a white cursor in the middle of the screen (not blinking)...I have tried pressing CTRL-ALT-Scroll and Pause Break...also tried to recreating installation usb via Ubuntu 20.04 Desktop iso with etcher---still getting the same thing with this iMac. what else can I try to get passed this cursor black screen???

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
