Ubuntu 20.04 (on HDD) - Do Not Disurb is not turning off, PrtSc and Firefox are unable to save files due to disk being write protected?

cn flag

Do-not-disturb button has stopped working once I turned it on. This is true for both the desktop bar, and inside the settings. Firefox says "the disk/folder/... is write protected, please choose another folder or make the disk writeable" (which it doesnt let me choose)

I guess all the above issues root from the same cause, since they all started at the same time. I am unable to share screenshots since none of the screenshot commands (copy to buffer, or save to disk) are working, and are just sounding an error. Kindly help.

I tried some options as suggested here: Cannot save any kind of file

namely,

sudo chmod a=rwx,o+t /tmp

Didnt work out.

Saving does not work in any other apps like the "Text Editor" and LibreOffice, Writer, etc. This is true for all locations.

I have two partitions in this HDD. One is for windows 10, takes half the HDD. I am unable to mount it due to the system being unable to create a mount point for the drive.

Nautilus(files app) has troubles with the thumbnail cache too and is asking for administrative permissions to fix them but still cannot fix them.

[Edit your question](https://askubuntu.com/posts/1387838/edit) and add the following information. Does saving work in other apps like the "Text Editor" and LibreOffice, Writer, Calc, etc.? Do you have multiple partitions in this HDD? If so, what are they? If you boot from a Live USB, can you save files in the internal HDD in your home folder, after you mount the internal HDD partition?

Thank you @user68186. Other than booting from a Live USB, I have checked the other things, and updated the question. I wont be able to check the last one.

I understand you can't mount the Windows partition. This may be due to corruption on the Windows side. How about saving files in your "Home" folders. For example, `/home/$USER/Documents/`? Where $USER is your username. Open a terminal, enter the command `touch testfile`. This should create an empty file called `testfile` in your `/home/$USER/` folder. If you get an error, copy the error message from the terminal and paste it directly in your question. Then format the pasted error as `code` using the {_} icon above the edit window.

An interrupted uprade had caused the lock. Restarting the system and upgrading again fixed the issue.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
