Ubuntu 20.04 LTS freezes when booting from USB on ubuntu loading screen

cn flag

I am quite new to this.

I used Rufus on windows to boot ubuntu 20.04 on my USB flash drive.

I have no OS installed for now.

When i start my system, GRUB's menu shows four options:

  • Ubuntu
  • Ubuntu (safe mode)
  • An option for manufacturers
  • UEFI Settings

Whatever the mode i choose, ubuntu always freezes on boot, just after checking the integrity of files, when i press esc to access the log, this is what i got:

Sorry for the low quality

I may have to mention that it didn't freeze the first time i tried to boot from the usb, but the during the copying of files when i was installing, the process cancelled due to some file problem, and i had to cancel the Ubuntu installation.

I've been looking for a solution for so long. Any advice would be very appreciated.

Did you verify the ISO prior to write to media? (https://tutorials.ubuntu.com/tutorial/tutorial-how-to-verify-ubuntu#0). You mention an error whilst copying files? If twas *squashfs* for example that's a bad write of ISO to thumb-drive; but you gave no specifics.. You also didn't say if you're talking Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server (ie. which 20.04 product). Providing the error messages how I'd advise you to ask here as "*some file problem*" is vague & all we can tell you to do is read that error as it contains your best clue (eg. aforementioned *squashfs* clue)

I can't read your picture; but it appears to show FS errors so I'd check the health of your drive (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Smartmontools) and then integrity of partition table (here you gave no specifics so I can't be specific) or re-create it, but there appears to be problems with your installation media as per prior comment in your picture as well (but it's hard to read; I can't copy & paste from a picture & I don't know what Ubuntu 20.04 product you're installing so I can't verify if that package is on the media - ie. you have *media* issues I've already alluded to)

Welcome to AskUbuntu, your computer BIOS is somewhat 5 years old and ASUS has a new updated BIOS from 2019, version 303. First update it [somehow](https://youtu.be/UUXrTExXDes) entering BIOS setting and pray. Then install again, if the USB drive and ISO isn't broken.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
