Ubuntu Server 20.04 does not show a bond device

jp flag

I've downloaded the LTS for Ubuntu Server (20.04) and upon installation the installer asks me to create a new bond address or continue without internet.

Upon opening the dialogue for a new bond address, no devices show up. (See the below image) Ive tried re-downloading, re-verifying, re-flashing the ISO and nothing seems to work. I've also verified that the Ethernet cord I'm using is good and so is the port on my motherboard. I booted to a live USB and it was able to connect to the internet no problem.

What am I doing wrong?

This sounds like the network device is not being detected by the installer. Do you know which network adapter is on the motherboard?

The network adapter on the motherboard is an Intel 1219-V 1GB Ethernet port. For reference the motherboard is an [ASUS PRIME B560M-A](https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards-Components/Motherboards/PRIME/PRIME-B560M-A/)

"I booted to a live USB and it was able to connect to the internet no problem." What live USB? The Ubuntu Server installer is also a live system. As matigo says, this looks like the kernel on this image does not find a driver for your ethernet interface.

Yeah I have TAILS on a USB and was able to plug it in and connect to the internet right away. The same is true for the latest version of Ubuntu server 21.10. I plugged the usb in, booted to it and it was able to connect to the internet no problem. I'm wondering if there is any thing I'm doing wrong that is preventing Ubuntu 20.04 from finding the device and configuring it automatically like Ubuntu 21.10 and TAILS do.

it's going to be a limitation of the kernel on the particular Ubuntu 20.04 image you're using. Which image is this? Can you reproduce the problem with the most recent point release, 20.04.3?

note that 20.04.4 will be out next month and will use the kernel from Ubuntu 21.10, so it will likely be addressed then

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
