built in mic volume is really low

tt flag

On Ubuntu 21.10 on an IMac mid-2011, the built in mic volume is really low, even when:

  • In system settings: the mic input volume fader is at max.
  • In pavucontrol: the built in mic input is at 100%
  • In alsamixer: all the input faders are at the max

but the built in mic volume is still really low.

I do pacmd list-sources :

index: 2
    name: <alsa_input.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo>
    driver: <module-alsa-card.c>
    flags: HARDWARE HW_MUTE_CTRL HW_VOLUME_CTRL DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY DYNAMIC_LATENCY
    state: RUNNING
    suspend cause: (none)
    priority: 9039
    volume: front-left: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB, front-right: 65536 / 100% / 0.00 dB
            balance 0.00
    base volume: 13076 / 20% / -42.00 dB

base volume is at 20%. I tried pacmd set-source-volume 7 65536.

but it does not change the base volume

How can I change the base volume to 100%?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
