No Wi-Fi module detected on Ubuntu 21.10

bw flag

My fresh install of Ubuntu 21.10 on ASUS ROG STRIX X570-E Gaming WIFI II does not seem to detect the wifi module. Bluetooth works just fine, I also disabled fast boot. I thought it could have been a kernel issue, as WiFi 6E isn't supported in the older versions, but it's 5.15 on my machine.

$ cat /proc/version
Linux version 5.15.0-051500rc6-generic (kernel@sita) (gcc (Ubuntu 11.2.0-7ubuntu2) 11.2.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.37) #202110180730 SMP Mon Oct 18 07:33:22 UTC 2021

Any help is appreciated.

As far as I can see, its not in the current kernel. The driver might be able to operate the chip set but the hardware IDs are not in the drivers yet. You will need this patch:

https://patchwork.kernel.org/project/linux-wireless/patch/84ab45bf42f57fd0301c156ffc11d0fe330ff1f8.1636857817.git.deren.wu@mediatek.com/

unfortunately, this will not apply directly as the original code is currently

   static const struct pci_device_id mt7921_pci_device_table[] = {
       { PCI_DEVICE(PCI_VENDOR_ID_MEDIATEK, 0x7961) },
       { },
   };

(cf: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux.git/tree/drivers/net/wireless/mediatek/mt76/mt7921/pci.c?h=v5.15.19 )

So you will have to add the IDs manually and compile it.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
