Corrupted Synology "Version" File During DSM Downgrade Attempt (Edit ext4 drive in Ubuntu?)

ve flag

While trying to downgrade from DSM 7 back to DSM 6, I SSH'd into drive with root privileges and modified the "version" file incorrectly (vi /etc.defaults/VERSION). When I restart the NAS and try to connect with Synology Assistant it shows the drive as "Migratable", but when trying to connect it eventually opens a browser window and says "Something Went Wrong". I tried doing a Mode 2 reset to no avail. I can no longer SSH or Telnet into the drive.

Question: Can I physically connect the ext4 drive (SATA enclosure to USB) in Ubuntu and replace the file with the correct one? Will the Synology ext4 drive have read/write permissions allowing me to make the change?

Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I have no idea what to do now.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
