How do I rebuild/reconnect encrypted RAID array on new computer?

ng flag

I am looking for help to have a previously built/functioning 2 HDD RAID1 array (encrypted with LUKS and containing two partitions) mount/decrypt at boot on a new rig. I'm having trouble finding information on getting this re-setup. I've found information on the initial setup, but those steps won't preserve the existing array and encryption.

The old computer was running 20.04 server LTS and the new one is running kubuntu 20.04 LTS. I saved the /etc folder from the first computer so I could review settings. I also have the lsblk from the first computer.

From what I've pieced together I believe I need to :

  • pvcreate (to add to /dev/mapper for each partition, using mkdir in mapper is incorrect?)
  • cryptsetup (open to decrypt the partitions and... associate? them with the mapper locations)
  • mount (mount the partitions to /mnt/p1 and /mnt/p2)
  • mdadm (--assemble --scan ; don't want to destroy the original, will this change mdadm.conf?)
  • update fstab and crypttab
  • run update-initramfs

Please let me know what specifics I need to provide. Any guidance is appreciated, thank you.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
