(ubuntu 18.04)
in the morning the laptop is unresponsive, but it's odd: it's definitely not in hibermate mode because i do everything but kick it and there is zero response (press power button, press every button, close and open lid, disconnect from monitor etc etc). It also doesnt appear to be shut down because i must hold the power button down quite a while before it comes to life, as if it was running and i was forcing a reboot. I ran 'last reboot| less' and it confirms it was rebooted in the morning. But it definitely was not running, eg a dvd player attached to it was not active (light off, won't eject) and the monitor is saying 'no signal detected' and it's impossible to rouse. This feels contradictory
This has happened twice, the first time was after installing updates. Before this i had never experienced anything like it. Some other details that may or may not be pertinent: i have an external hardrive connected ... that's all.
out of date (original) description of the problem:
after installing updates the usual pop up appeared with two buttons:
restart now and restart later. I didnt choose, I just left it and went
to bed. In the morning the computer was shut down. Is this expected
behaviour caused by updates, or somehting else happened? Windows
counts down before restarting (ie 'restarting in 10 minutes ...').
Does Ubuntu do something similar if the user doesnt engage it? I
started the computer in the morning and everything appears fine, i
guess it didnt crash although it was breathing heavily when i left it.
