Ubuntu 20.04 and 22.04 ed25519 format ssh key isn't automatically unlocked at login

Is there a way to automatically unlock an ed25519 format private ssh key (which has a passphrase) upon login?

As I recall, our previous format keys did automatically unlock after login (thanks to Seahorse?) but the ed25519 format keys don't seem to.

The bypass I've found is to manually run:

eval `ssh-agent` && ssh-add

and then run screen or tmux so all the child processes inherit the unlocked key. But it would seem risky to automate that step since it requires entering the passphrase.

I noticed this issue on 20.04 once we changed to ed25519 format ssh keys (so it might have existed prior to that). It has continued to be a problem on 22.04.

Would be thankful for any pointers or advice!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
