This is an Ubuntu Studio PC with Xfce desktop, being used as a gaming emulator.
The gamepads are:-
2 x Xbox One controllers (over USB not bluetooth)
3 x Dualshock4 controllers (over USB not bluetooth)
I'm happy with the udev rules and other settings as they are at boot. Most Linux games with full controller support will work correctly with up to 4 players, and Steam and most of the emulators can find a couple of the joypads most of the time.
But often I find that they don't restore the original settings, and I have to reboot. It would be nice if I could
run a console command to restart just the gamepads, or force all the js# devices to be re-detected.
The gamepads also tend to mess up if they are unplugged and replugged. Redetecting them potentially at a different USB port would be useful too.
The installed emulators (etc) include:-
- Steam (Linux) > Proton, Wine
- Steam (wine32)
- Steam (wine64)
- PlayOnLinux > Proton, Wine
- Lutris > Proton, Wine
- Heroic > Proton, Wine (>Dosbox), Lutris
- MAME
- Hatari
- Dolphin
- RPCS3
- PCSX2
- RetroArch > various cores
- RetroVM
- Beebem
- Dosbox
I think that probably a lot of the time, I could configure these apps better, but if I'm using them for literally 1 or 2 games I find it's easier to let them do whatever and reboot the PC afterwards. A console command that would let me reset all the controllers would be something I'd find hugely helpful.
