white screen of death with CUDA in Ubuntu 22.04

When I reboot my machine after installing the CUDA toolkit (11.8), I get a blank, white screen. This doesn't happen if I only install the NVIDIA drivers (5.20), but the combo with the CUDA toolkit is what seems to trigger this event. Unfortunately I need the CUDA toolkit to run some applications (cryosparc) for my work. Some details of my machine:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X Motherboard: Gigabyte X570S AORUS ELITE AX GPU: Zotac GAMING GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 128GB (4x32GB) SSD: Samsung 2TB SSD, 970 EVO Plus

I'm wondering if anyone else has come across this issue and whether there is a fix? Thanks, tom

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
