External monitors detected only when docked

am flag

Dear potential helpers,

With previous versions of Ubuntu, my laptop HP EliteBook 840 G3 (Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 520, SKL GT2) was able to detect my two external monitors.

I installed Ubuntu 22.04 a few weeks ago and now when docked, it detects my two external monitors connected to the dock VGA/DP ports:

(base) HP-EliteBook-840-G3:~$ xrandr --listmonitors

Monitors: 3

0: +*XWAYLAND5 1920/520x1080/290+3840+0 XWAYLAND5

1: +XWAYLAND2 1920/310x1080/170+1920+0 XWAYLAND2

2: +XWAYLAND4 1920/520x1080/290+0+0 XWAYLAND4

and everything works perfectly well.

But if I don't dock it and use the laptop VGA/DP ports, it desperately refuses to detect the same external monitors.

(base) HP-EliteBook-840-G3:~$ xrandr --listmonitors

Monitors: 1

0: +*XWAYLAND5 1920/310x1080/170+0+0 XWAYLAND2

Strange behavior that I don't understand and that prevents me from using my laptop during my lectures.

Many thanks if you have an answer,

Laurent

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
