How to automatically configure Nemo in Ubuntu 22.10?

us flag

While trying to automatically configure Nemo, the file explorer, I was experiencing some difficulties in finding the desired configuration commands.

How can I ensure:

  1. The hidden folders are always shown.
  2. Have list-view on all folders, except for the ~/Pictures directory.
  3. Sort on name on all folders from a-Z except for the ~/Downloads directory (sorted on date instead).
  4. Apply a black/dark theme to all folders/Nemo. Using e.g. dot files on Ubuntu 22.10 (such that it is/can be automated)?

Approach I

I noticed the ~/.config/nemo directory, and tried to see what the syntax was for changes. So I pressed Ctrl+H to show all the hidden folders, however, no configuration file/setting was created in ~/.config/nemo (that stored something like: show_hidden=true).

Approach II

In this post, gsettings seem to be used to configure Nemo, yet I did not exactly determine how to include the excepted folders and (for view type for Pictures, and sort for Downloads).

I tried running:

gsettings set org.nemo.icon-view captions "['size', 'type', 'date_accessed', 'date_modified']"

However, that did not result in the data_accessed column being shown in Nemo.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
