I just built a new PC running 22.04. It has a 13600k with MSI MPG Edge Wifi (ddr5) motherboard. And no audio comes from the audio ports. Nothing comes from the HDMI monitor if it is plugged in directly. It doesn't come from the monitor if its plugged into my displaylink hub. And audio doesn't come from the front headphone jack or from the rear audio ports either. The only way I can get audio is from bluetooth audio devices or from a the monitor on my usb microphone.
I've tried pulseaudio -k && sudo alsa force-reload
. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling pulseaudio and alsa.

I don't have the dummy audio issue. All the audio outputs show up as I'd expect. When I select my bluetooth headpones, dulcet tones emerge. If I select the monitor, or the displaylink hub, or the front audio, or any other onboard audio, I get silence.
I suspect that something is amiss with the hardware driver because I get sound on bluetooth and on usb speakers, but not when the hardware driver might be expected to chip in.
Please help! Did I miss something? I want to hear the tunes!
edit: So the plot thickens, because I tried the microphone inputs, and I can confirm that the microphone works. If I plug a mic into the displaylink hub or the front audio panel, the system will hear it, I can record it, or play it back however I like. But I still can't hear it if I plug in my headphones... only on bluetooth.
edit 2: so, actually, I was wrong earlier. the audio does come out from the rear audio panel. Not from the front headphone jack, even though it can detect that a headphone has been plugged in. Just the rear audio output, and bluetooth and a usb mic monitoring output.
