On my desktop computer, if I plug a jack headset while the computer is running, PulseAudio doesn't detect it (I only have "dummy output" and no input devices) until I manually restart the service.
When the headset is already plugged during computer startup (most of the time), there are no issues since PulseAudio scans for devices when it starts. But it's slightly annoying having to restart the entire service (and all programs that use audio too: Spotify, games, ...) just to be able to use my headset, the few times I used it for something else beforehand.
I'm wondering how I can enable auto refresh of devices. I know that a laptop of mine on the same Ubuntu version handles that perfectly so PulseAudio must have this feature. My config file may not be exactly the same as upstream due to a small problem I had before, but it had nothing to do with device scanning. Consider my PulseAudio config file to not be the default one from Ubuntu 20.04 in case you think the issue lies here.
My computer runs Ubuntu 20.04, on a Linux 5.4.0-135-generic kernel. I'm pretty sure that my jack ports are directly connected to my B450M PRO-VDH MAX motherboard. aplay
reports ALC892 as my driver.
Thanks in advance
