Grabbing the Ubuntu Desktop via its X11 root window, I noticed an area, about 12 pixels high, with rapid changes in it. What is that? And how can I determine its height programmatically?

providing environment info:
$XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP = ubuntu:GNOME
$DESKTOP_SESSION = ubuntu

using xwininfo -root -tree I found some possible suspects, e.g. "gnome-terminal-server", "Chromium clipboard"; but I am still unclear on this.

I've seen it changing more rapidly with Firefox running, maybe that is a hint?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
