Internal screen is "unknown", no other displays recognized

cn flag

On Ubuntu MATE 22.04, I cannot use a secondary screen, and the first screen is also kind of weird. I can use the laptop and work on it, but when I open the "Devices - Screens" dialog, the internal laptop screen is listed as "unknown", with the only available resolution "3840x2160", frequency "88 Hz". No other options. I also tried xrandr, its output is the same:

xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 3840 x 2160, current 3840 x 2160, maximum 3840 x 2160
default connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 0mm x 0mm
   3840x2160 88.00*

These settings work perfectly, but there should be other options.

Some more info which might be useful:
Only after getting the newest updates today, I could switch the graphics driver to the recommended one. Before, the dialog always told me that "a manually installed driver is in use" and all other options were greyed out, so I could not even change to a different driver (but I have never installed a driver manually, I just installed Ubuntu 22.04 from an USB stick, only a few months ago). With the updates today, I finally could change the driver, so I selected the recommended option "nvidia-driver-525" and rebooted.

Before that (with the driver listed as "manually installed"), the internal display was at least displayed with a name "eDP-0" and listed also other resolutions, and when I plugged in other screens, they were displayed with names like "HDMI-1". But I could not activate them, not using the GUI, and I also tried different xrandr commands without success. So I thought that using the officially recommended driver would be better.

Notably also that I have a dual boot and also use Ubuntu MATE 18.04 on the same hardware. There I use the recommended drivers "nvidia-drivers-470", and everything is ok with both internal and external screens. Knowing that, I also tried using installing "nvidia-drivers-470" in Ubuntu 22.04, but it also shows the internal screen as "Unknown" and with no options other than the current ones. So I switched back to the recommended version 525. The internal screen in Ubuntu 18.04 has the name "DP-0". (It used to be "eDP-0" when the installation of 18.04 was new, and changed to "DP-0" later, so I was a little surprised to see again "eDP-0" in Ubuntu 22.04. But I don't know if that is relevant for the problem.)

Graphic card is GeForce GTX 1050 Mobile.

What can I do so the screens are recognized correctly? Thanks for your help!

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
