Notification for print job sent in UbuntuMATE 22.04 LTS

pe flag

In previous LTS releases, a completed print job displayed a notification balloon. While perhaps annoying for some users (with printers on their desks), it is extremely handy for a network printer down the hall.

Currently, no print jobs (through CUPS) show any notification, even in the popover notification window.

This may be related to dropping the popup notification balloon for low-urgency in Gnome 41+. However, all notifications, even low-urgency, need to display somewhere.

How can I regain the functionality from previous versions? Is CUPS no longer sending any notifications?

Interestingly, using $ notify-send --urgency=low "TEST" DOES both pop up a notification window, AND show in the notifications popover display.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
