Ubuntu 22.04 Bluetooth audio woes (WF-1000XM4)

pe flag

I've had this headset for a while now and have had mixed luck with getting these to work nicely on any linux distro, including now the latest LTS ubuntu release.

Most of the issues regarding these is the card profile not switching to high quality audio (not being able to switch to LDAP). I've sometimes gotten this to work by connecting to android, fiddling with some app settings on the headphones and re-connecting. Explicitly setting the card profile does not work with this headset.

However right now I'm even having basic connection issues, where the headphones keep dropping and reconnecting after a minute or two. On top of this, more than half the time they are not visible/recognized in the gnome settings panel/pulseadio control.

To possibly fix at least some codec support issues/profile switching I tried switching to pipewire, which has not helped at all.

Any suggestions?

Edit: have also tried directly connecting with bluetoothctl but same issues persist.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
