Dual-booted Ubuntu 22.04 | black screen from inactivity (locking, closing lid) sometimes freezes and requires hard reboot

fr flag

I have a ThinkPad P14s Gen3 (AMD Ryzen Pro 7 Pro 6850U) with Ubuntu 22.04 dual booted alongside Windows 10 (the original OS). Recently, I've had the reoccuring issue that after a period of inactivity - either while keeping the lid open or closing it - the screen remains black and won't turn on again. Although the light next to the power button is on (and blinks when connecting the charging cable), everything else remains unresponsive and requires a hard reboot.

This happens sporadically. I've noticed when I close the lid and don't lock the screen beforehand it often freezes, so locking seems to help. When I don't close the lid, I can't tell - it's happened after an hour, but also hasn't after 8 hours of inactivity.

I've checked that my Windows 10 doesn't go into hibernation mode when it shuts down. UEFI secure boot is off. Bios version is R23ET60W (1.30) and doesn't seem to have some of the settings others have described (f.e. no sleep state in config->power that I could change to "Linux"). I do not have the amdgpu driver installed, because - by the looks of the site - they don't support ryzen pro 7 on ubuntu.

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated! I'm new to Ubuntu and dual booting in general and am therefore unsure what I can / should change in the bios (updating, switching off security chip, etc) or with regards to drivers.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
