Screen Display settings empty after upgrade to 22.04 with Unity instead of GNOME

cn flag

For reasons, I installed Unity on top of my 20.10 Ubuntu, so I could use ccsm. When I upgraded to 22.04, the unity-control-center would no longer run or install because it's missing pulseaudio.

But when trying to modify my displays using gnome-control-center, there's no displays shown—not my laptop nor my external monitor:

If I launch it from terminal, I get these errors when I go to the Screen Display tab:

(gnome-control-center:230179): display-cc-panel-WARNING **: 19:56:17.370: Missing property 'ApplyMonitorsConfigAllowed' on DisplayConfig API

(gnome-control-center:230179): display-cc-panel-WARNING **: 19:56:17.400: Error calling GetCurrentState: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner: Destination does not exist

I tried googling the first error and literally the sole reference to it was the source code of the file that generates that error. The second error I just noticed is also relevant and does get some results, so I'll investigate that but I'm going to post this question for now and if I find my own answer I'll post it below.

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
