Ubuntu 22.04 - Web audio suddenly extremely low for some sites

jp flag

Recently the audio from some websites on my Ubuntu 22.04 desktop is barely audible. This happens only on my sites but not others, but happens on both Chrome and Firefox.

It even happens for different videos on youtube. (so presumably related to a codec?)

Audio in Slack is barely audible.
Audio in Google meet is barely audible.
Some videos (but not others) on youtube are barely audible.
Audio in Spotify is audible

The Gnome Audio Control app doesn't help.

How can I debug what on earth is going on here?

This is the debug info for a youtube video where the audio does not work:

Beats me what the cmt field of that means but

Doesn't work: 5.717 Does Word: 3.054

Looks like a versioning problem of some sort ... but I am babbling. Probably. Good luck and post what you discover!

I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
