Edit video metadata on Ubuntu?

ph flag

I've been trying to edit metadata of some mp4 files, and been unable to do it on Ubuntu. I'm specifically looking to edit the 'rating' of the video. On windows, I can right click > properties > details and edit the rating just by clicking it (see image).

if possible, I'm happy to automate it using python too, so whatever works.

This is, for example, how I edit rating of a video file on windows:

Any help is appreciated!

digiKam is an easy and feature rich GUI media files meta-data(and more) viewer and editor.

It is available from the official Ubuntu repositories and can be installed with:

sudo apt install digikam

Then, it can be run from the applications menu or simply by running it from the terminal like so:

$ digikam

to remove meta data you want to use exiftool like this: exiftool -all= video.mp4

To install exiftool: sudo apt install libimage-exiftool-perl

In VLC, I do see the metadata tab, but it doesn't seem to be listing anything. with exiftool, to list the metadata: exiftool video.mp4

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
