How to activate mouse scrolling function again?

cl flag

Since last week, my Ubuntu Studio installation has suddenly completely lost its mouse scroll function pointing the mouse in an opened (activated) window (file manager 'Dolphin', internet browser 'Firefox' ...). Until now, this never has been an issue on my Ubuntu Studio system.

Now, I am left with each time pointing the mouse on the extremely narrow scroll bars in an opened window, which starts to become very laborious and annoying.

How can I fix this problem?

System informations:

Linux/KDE Plasma: Ubuntu Studio 22.04.2 LTS
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.7
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.92.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3
Dolphin Version: 21.12.3
Firefox Version: 115.0.2
Mouse: Logitech MX 518 (cable)

SOLUTION:

Carefully cleaning all electrical contacts on mouse and computer with isopropyl alkohol.

Have you verified on another machine that your mouse is not faulty? If you do something like `xev |grep Button`, does it register something when you use the mouse wheel in the window that appears?

@Sebastian I was 100% confident, that the abrupt lost of the scrolling function was software/system related, because turning the mouse whell feeled totally 'normal'. Following your lead, I plugged my second Logitech MX 518 (last version) and scrolling in an opened window worked just fine. I was flabbergasted! Now, I cleaned all the electrical contacts on my old mouse with isopropyl alcohol and after plugging the old mouse into my computer all scrolling worked faultlessly again! MY BIG FAULT! Thank you very much for your competent help, 'Sebastian' and 'rocky rocky' – very appreciated!

Click Activities -> Find Mouse & Touchpad and click on it

Check if Natural Scrolling is turned on, if so, please turn it off.

I'm not sure that setting exists in Ubuntu Studio 22.

I had a look into Activities -> Mouse, but there are only 4 options listed. No 'Natural Scrolling' visible. There are no scrolling options at all.

@rocky rocky I found this old post: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1291068/not-able-to-scroll-in-ubuntu-20-04-1-lts-touchpad-settings-are-missing-under-mo => 'Natural Scrolling' is the fourth option, which translates in my german localization to 'Bildlauf: Laufrichtung umkehren'. It was turned off. For testing, I turned it on, but for now no changes noticeable.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
