Kernel upgrade has killed pipewire. No sound anywhere

dz flag

I think a kernel upgrade has wiped out sound on my laptop.

The internal devices (HDMI and speakers) appear in the KDE widget, but no sound issues from anything.

I tried adding the pipewire ppa to the system (KDE Neon) to upgrade pipewire, but I'm getting the following errors on the upgrade

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 gstreamer1.0-pipewire : Depends: libpipewire-0.3-0 (= 0.3.48-1ubuntu3) but 0.3.78-1~ubuntu22.04 is installed
 pipewire : Depends: libpipewire-0.3-modules (= 0.3.48-1ubuntu3) but 0.3.78-1~ubuntu22.04 is installed
 pipewire-bin : Depends: libpipewire-0.3-modules (= 0.3.48-1ubuntu3) but 0.3.78-1~ubuntu22.04 is installed
                Depends: libpipewire-0.3-0 (= 0.3.48-1ubuntu3) but 0.3.78-1~ubuntu22.04 is installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt --fix-broken install' with no packages (or specify a solution).

I tried purging pipewire, pipewire-bin and gstreamer1.0-pipewire but still no joy on installing the newer version.

Since trying this, I can no longer pair the bluetooth speaker either, on connection it fails with br-connection-profile-unavailable. I tried removing it and re-pairing with the same result.

This is now officially annoying. Anyone have any clues as to where to start on this?

Thanks heaps.

Only Ubuntu and official flavors of Ubuntu (https://ubuntu.com/download/flavours) are on-topic here, refer to https://askubuntu.com/help/on-topic where you'll find other SE sites where you question will be welcome if you don't want to use a KDE/Neon forum. *KDE Neon and Kubuntu do share some support sites, alas this is not one of them* KDE Neon uses a Ubuntu base, but then packages from later non-LTS releases to provide a new Qt5 & KF5 stack as required by later KDE Plasma desktops... KDE Neon is **not** a Ubuntu system, but a mix of many Ubuntu releases plus 3rd party non-Ubuntu packages.
I sit in a Tesla and translated this thread with Ai:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
