Properly Extend virtual volumes on a CentOS VM, new space in /dev/cl/ not occupied by /dev/mapper
cn flag

I have a CentOS VM (on a windows host, managed with virtualbox) that ran out of disk space.

I extended the virtual disk size, then used gparted to assign the new space to the existing partition

Then I used lvextend to assign halves of the free space to /dev/cl/home and /dev/cl/root

However df show that the /dev/mapper/cl-home and /dev/mapper/cl-root haven't grown into the now available space even after ...

Prevent UID 0 containers running Kubernetes
cn flag

Traditionally I would have prevented root/UID 0 containers from running in kubernetes using pod security policies. However it seems that in 1.21 PSPs have been deprecated. Are there any other recommended ways to prevent these from running at a cluster level?

I would like to ask a question on EdgeOptions class.

I see that the DesiredCapabilities class has been obsolete or deprecated from selenium in favor of the BrowerOptions (i.e. EdgeOption. ChromeOptions, FirefoxOptions).

Now I've tried to do remote cross browser testing with Edge, chrome and firefox. With the Firefox and chrome the cross testing work so well but neither with edge i'm getting this err ...

Can't upgrade debian stretch php to 7.x

I need to upgrade my server (debian 9) php version from 7.0 to 7.1 at least, but it seems that apt doesn't find any version. I did:

apt update
apt upgrade

And now if I do apt install php7 or apt install php 7.1 (or 7.2 or 7.3 or 7.4) or even apt install php 7.0 (that is the installed version) I have that message:

Migrating dovecot maildirs (dump) to other service

After issues with the VPS host / manager I've migrated from a managed VPS mail to a more saas-type service.

However while I remembered to backup the VPS (so I have a bunch of dovecot maildirs in a zip) I didn't see the importing facilities of the new service before the domain had already been moved over and the old servers were inaccessible, the new service can only do imap sync.

And so I was wonder ...

Ubuntu 20.04 - Login freezes, local login to terminal works after ctrl-c

I have an Ubuntu 20.04 server that currently stucks during the login process. Remote SSH logins do not work at all. When I do a local login to a terminal, the login stucks as well, but resumes to a prompt after typing the password and then pressing ctrl-c. The problem seems not be related to my account, but also affects other users. .profile and .bashrc seem to be executed correctly. Also, login to serv ...

Adding multiple virtual switches to New-VM?

I'm working on a Powershell script to create new virtual machines as part of a migration between a Hyper-V server running Hyper-V Server 2012R2 and a new Hyper-V server running Hyper-V Server 2019.

For the virtual machines that have one single virtual switch assigned to them, this script works fine, however, I have some virtual machines that have two switches. For those VM's, I get this message:  ...

Is it possible to merge host names on two Dnsmasq instances?

I have a router and a dump AP that are connected with a wire. The router has two interfaces, one is for LAN (192.168.1.1/24) and the other for WAN. The AP also has two interfaces, one is for LAN (192.168.1.2/24), the other for guest WiFi (192.168.2.1/24). (It actually also has a LAN WiFi, but it shouldn’t be relevant in this case.)

I have a CMS website that I'm taking over hosting that has been set up with CentOS 7.9. It is running on the VM and I want to keep that VM up to date with minimal manual intervention.

I have done a bit of similar work with Amazon Linux 2 and Debian Stable before where I had these triggered weekly. yum update --security on the Red Hat-based AL2 seemed to work without unintended side-effects for me.

When I run the Network Diagnostics from inside the VM I get the following dialog: enter image description here. Obvious ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
