AWS client IP preservation with NLB
cn flag

On AWS, when you create a NLB, you have the possibility to specify the instance ID instead of the instance IP address. This causes the NLB to preserve the client IP.

However, if I configure the NLB to target instances in a private subnet where the route table includes a default route to a NAT gateway, how can the response be routed back via the NLB interface and not the NAT gateway?

Long processes in AWS lambda

Forgive me if this question is answered elsewhere but most references to long lived AWS Lambda are about process runaway or something going wrong.

My question is: is Lambda (or whatever is Microsoft's equivalent) suitable for running processes that by design can run for up to half an hour? We have a set of PHP scripts that currently run as Webjobs on Azure. Some run for a few seconds every 5 or ...

How to Enable SSL for Amazon EC2 Instance(LAMP packaged by Bitnami)?
cn flag

I launch an EC2 instance with an AMI from the marketplace, which is called LAMP packaged by Bitnami.

After the instance is launched, I find I can only access its DNS name or IP via HTTP, not HTTPS. It seems that the SSL will not be installed by default.

So I search on its document and find this: https://docs.bitnami.com/aws/faq/administration/generate-configure-certificate-letsencrypt/

Windows PMTU black hole detection works for some connections by not others
pt flag

It seems a part of the network doesn't allow Ethernet frames larger than 1510 bytes (excluding checksum), making the allowed MTU be 1496 bytes instead of the standard 1500 bytes and thus frames that originally contained 1500 bytes payload are dropped.

The exact reason for the reduced MTU is not relevant to this question. The question is here why a Windows Server 2019 is able to recover from these ...

What are the risks of using myQNAPcloud?
iq flag

In my organization we have QNAP NAS, which is currently behind NAT, but with port forwarding it's accessible from Internet by our domain. Recently I've learned about myQNAPcloud service. As I understand, by registering device with this service, NAS should be accessible by QNAP domain and I could disable all port forwarding on router. In this configuration one needs to know exact domain to even try to do ...

Amazon Web Services To Serial Device

I'm contemplating moving an old windows server we have to AWS when the unit finally retires. One issue is that we have a truck scale that connects to the server via a serial (com3:) port. The current serial port happens to be a USB to 9 pin dongle.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
