I recently upgraded a production server from PHP 7.4 to PHP 8.0 (this is using the ondrej packages). As a reference, I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.3, apache2.4.46 and now PHP8.0.

After about 18 hours, the apache server stopped responding, giving an empty response data error. Apache gave the following error:

AWS: Connecting Multi-Roles Plus VPN In Two Regions
mx flag

I have a setup in AWS with a few different environments (Dev/Staging/Prod accounts/roles each with their own subnet) all in the Canada region, connected to our office with an IPSec VPN. All the different environments can talk to each other, and we can access all the environments from our VPN connections via the Transit Gateway.

We are now bringing up some EC2 instances with the same environment  ...

Run Multiple Commands on Docker Container Startup on Synology NAS
eg flag

Due to the way the existing folder permissions are structured via ACL I need to assign additional groups to the user inside several Docker containers I'm running. Unfortunately the containers by default do not allow this via environment variables so I think the simplest way will be to run a few commands on container startup. I know this might be a bit hacky but I'm ok with that. Just to complicate thing ...

Why my port 27015 is scanned by several ISP across the world?
es flag

I configured my server to block all ports except 22,80 and 443 with UFW. I then created a fail2ban rule to put in jail every IP that scan ports unsuccessfully more than 5 times and report it to AbuseIP.

After some adjustments it's working well so far, except that I noticed my port 27015 is reported a lot of times with IPs that I seem to be the only one to report, for example: https://www.abuseipdb. ...

I'm trying to use rdiff-backup in Windows, using the root of a local disk as a source and a local folder on a different local disk as a destination.

rdiff-backup keeps crashing when it tries reading the "System Volume Information" folder; I am trying to discover what syntax may cause it to ignore that one, and "$RECYCLE.BIN" as well; I tried giving an ignore file with those absolute paths in it,  ...

How does ClamAV secure its updates online?

Two questions, the second related to the first...

How does ClamAV secure its update virus definition operations from its online servers? I will assume (?) that it uses HTTPS for security, but a security specialist has posed the thoughtful question: seeing as ClamAV updates regularly with definitions obtained from an online server, it creates an opportunity for exploitation - all calls made from C ...

How to take control of a directory without destroying the permissions within?

I'm trying to copy the contents of a directory off a server I am decommissioning, and I am running into permissions errors. The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
