How to diagnose a quietly dying Java server application?
cn flag

We run a cluster of Java Spring server apps on AWS EC2 instances running Centos 7. We have health monitors on them, and occasionally an alarm will go off and we'll find that the Java process has quietly just disappeared. We can find nothing in any of the logs...either our own, or system logs. We have an outer "catch Throwable" around our own code that logs what it catches, but we run Tomcat, which has m ...

Cisco ASAv Ikev2 IPSec tunnel failing in phase2
id flag

We have Cisco ASAv appliance on Azure with Loadbalancer setup. while setting up IKEv2 IPSec tunnel we saw phase 1 is up and phase 2 is failing over peer ID validation, while debugging we saw that Cisco ASAv is taking private IP as peer IP rather than public IP on external interface.

Is there's a setting which can be done to fix that?

How do I get a graceful shutdown of Node.js running on Apache/CentOS/Plesk?
br flag

Hopefully this question has an answer that's generic to Apache and Node.js, and not specific to Plesk ('cause I know how you feel about Plesk-specific questions!).

I recently decided to add some text message notifications to a Node.js server app, for when a particular update was discovered. While I was at it, I figured it would be a good idea to add a server start-up and shutdown notifications to ...

systemd-networkd configuration not adding any routes and not finishing configuration

With systemd 241 on Debian 10, I am attempting to configure systemd-networkd style networking for an edge server.

The problem I have is that when systemd-networkd starts up, it does not add the v4 or v6 routes but reports that it still is in the "configuring" state:

Upgrading Server Storage (Single 4TB SSD, Ubuntu Server)

I am renting a server from a small company. It's a Supermicro SYS-6017R-NTF running Ubuntu Server 18.04.

I am using the server to serve a website that runs on top of a 3TB database. This database is the backbone of the website, and it is constantly being written to and read from. I sent the company a 4TB Samsung 860 PRO SSD to store the database when I first provisioned the server.

Can I have my KVM guests on the same subnet as the host?
sk flag

Using virtual network "default" I get the guests on their own subnet, NAT'ed to the host's subnet.

Using a separate bridge, it seems possible to have guests on the same subnet as the host, but apparently this requires a dedicated physical nic on the host?

I have experimented with macvtap vepa or bridge, but could not get a link this way.

Change timeout for message review in Exchange Online?
cn flag

I have set up some phishing/malware mail-flow rules that will forward emails to me for review based on attachments or a list of domains. I can then choose to accept or reject the message. It seems to work well. The problem I'm having is that this weekend, some were automatically rejected because I didn't respond in time.

How do I change this time to "auto reject"?

Server has continuous beep alarm when I reload the kernel
in flag

Here is the situation:

I have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M900 with Linux CentOS 7.

I tried to do a kernel load (kexec -l + kexec -e), and it works fine, with one problem.

As soon as I enter the kexec -e command, the Server starts a long alarm beep which sadly doesn't stop.

Am I doing something wrong ? How to reload the kernel without really rebooting ?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
