Finding root cause for TCP retransmissions
cn flag

We have an product based on a 3rd party application, running on an apache server connected to a firebird (v2.5.3) database.

Unfortunately, we got to a point were we are getting timeouts when users try to make requests to the server. When opening devtools->network tab, we see that the packets are droped.

For debugging this issue, we recorded wireshark traffic on the server, and we see a lot of ret ...

I have an ec2 instance on aws running linux, with a root volume and another volume for data. Both are ext4. I need to increase the data volume size to more than 2 TB. However currently the partitioning scheme is mbr, so I'm unable to create such partition. I found that gpt allows more than 2 TB partitions. But most google search results are not very clear whether same server can have 1 disk ( root ) wit ...

Force nginx reverse proxy to resolve AAAA record only (and ignore A record) of a domain?
ru flag

I am trying to use nginx on my VPS (mydoamin.com with A and AAAA record) with public static IP address (both IPv4 and IPv6) to create an IPv4-to-IPv6 proxy to make a IPv6-only home server reachable from normal IPv4 networks. The A record of the domain points to the nginx server and AAAA record to the IPv6-only home server directly.

My current nginx server block looks like this:

isc-dhcp-server ip-range speicifc domain-name-server
cn flag

I'm trying to get an isc-dhcp-server configuration to use different DNS-Servers based on the ip-address assigned.
Basically, I want some of my client marked as not-trusted, which then may not access services using the internal url.
I tried using range based pools, which do not seem to be able to handle the domain-name-servers option. I also tried using multiple subnets with the same ip/netmask configurati ...

Connect from Azure VM to Laptop Environment
de flag

Lots of articles discuss setting up connections to your VM (RDP, SSH, Bastion).

However, when you are emulating on-prem environments, usually you also need to connect back to your laptop or laptop hyper-v "server" environment.

How do you get past NAT and set rules so that only these VMs can connect? Also, if connected to a Corp VPN, would that make it easier or more difficult in your experience?

saving ip config persistent with nmcli or something equal?
in flag

I am using RocksLinux where I set up my IP addresses by hand with the standard command "IP" and "IP -6" for my IP version 4 and 6 addresses.

Now I want to save with NetworkManager, or something equal to the configuration persistently, that if I reboot the machine, I don't have to add these addresses manually once again.

Any ideas?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
