Ubuntu server boot drive mistakenly filled up
us flag

I have a simple Ubuntu storage server installation with a 100+ HDDs attached to it using mergerfs (a union file system) and DAS/disk shelves. The 480 GB SSD boot drive has filled up, but based on the OS installation, apps I installed and data it should only be 120 GB filled. I suspect one of the mountpoints for the HDDs (i.e., /mnt/disk72) is not going to the actual HDD (i.e., /dev/sdbg), but simply str ...

I'm trying to set up a security certificate for a sql server. According to the documentation, I need to set up the permissions so that the sql server instance can read the private key. How do I switch to another organization in the AWS console?
us flag

My company has two organizations: one is the primary organization that my user is part of. The other is a new one created for testing purposes.

I need to switch to that organization to create an S3 bucket (and possibly some other resources) so that they will be owned by the other organization and not the one my user is part of. I supposedly have access to do so.

How do I do that?

We have a virtual linux VPN using StrongSwan to integrate some REST API services.

Our VPN works perfectly, however after some time it looses the tunnel connection and goes down. We need to manually enter to the server via SSH and run ipsec restart.

Can a RDS Multi AZ w/one standby be converted to Multi AZ w/two readable standbys?
ge flag

I'm looking at the two AWS RDS options for highly available databases :

  • Multi-AZ with one standby
  • Multi-AZ with two readable standbys

https://aws.amazon.com/rds/features/multi-az/

My understanding is that with Multi-AZ with one standby, you pay for two instances. However, you can only use one instance. When a failure occurs, the other instance takes over.

With the Multi-AZ with two readable standbys ...

Will updating Azure static public IP from Basic to Standard SKU reassign a new IP address?
cn flag

as per the title. I have an Azure VM with a Basic SKU static public IP and considering to upgrade it to the standard. However, I do not wish the IP to change as it's being whitelisted in various of our partners systems. It seems I need to disassiocate it first before I'm able to upgrade it to Standard. That's what's worrying me that I might be changed/reassigned a new IP from their public pool.

I am trying to create an Ansible task to remove RDM disks from a VM when the scsi_controller value is not zero. However, the when condition is skipping the entire task rather than walking the loop and skipping only the scsi_controller(s) with value of zero. I've also tried with_nested, which produced worse results.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
