Fixing bad network drivers on 2019 DC S2D installation
in flag

I am helping to troubleshoot an existing Windows failover cluster on Windows Server 2019 Data Center. The cluster is set up to use Storage Spaces Direct (http://aka.ms/s2d) but there are problems with the deployment, specifically the network driver versions are mismatched on the NIC ports used by S2D. To help upright the cluster, I will take the cluster down and go to a same-driver-version for all ...

Connecting hundreds of servers via the local network (LAN)
in flag

I'm caching lots of data in memory to a local Redis server. The server will need to connect to hundreds of other servers in the same data center (as they all need to access the same information hosted by the Redis server).

In order to minimize latency and maximize throughput I plan on connecting all of the servers to the Redis server with a 40 Gigabit Ethernet (40 Gbit/s).

I have an asp classic application inside an ASP.NET application. The default.aspx page reads the Windows login of the user and looks them up in a database table. Then it puts the credentials in a cookie and passes it to the menu page of the asp classic application. The application works in our pre-production environment with Chrome and Firefox, but the Windows authentication will not pass through in Edg ...

Can't RDP to Azure VM while traveling

I connect all the time from my home office in the US and I have a dynamic IP so I know I have to update my NSG every time to reflect my current IP. I am traveling now in Mexico and have updated my IP in the NSG, but I cannot connect. Also testing via telnet <IP> port won't connect. OpenVPN won't connect to my IPv6 address (write UDP: unknown error code=10051)

I have a problem with my VPN. I have recently gotten an IPv6 address and wanted to use that for OpenVPN. I can connect if I use my IPv4 address instead which makes me think I have probably done something wrong or it isn't supported yet.

Why do netcat packets get re-routed by iptables rules, but not a curl request?
in flag

I am trying to route all of my traffic through an SSH tunnel/SOCKS5 proxy. I have some IP tables rules configured to redirect (almost) all traffic to a socket-based program that then negotiates and redirects the traffic to the SOCKS5 proxy. What I am finding is that not all of my traffic is getting re-routed properly, and I suspect it is my iptables rules that aren't working. Would anyone be willing  ...

"Getting Fatal Error: Receved unexpected end-of-file from SFTP server" from Windows OpenSSH - Issue with latest OpenSSH version
cn flag

EDIT: Well, found (at least one) problem. We set up a new VM and installed the latest version of OpenSSH server for windows (v8.9) and it also fails to run correctly. The servers where it still works are running the older release, v8.6. I'm in the process of confirming that is the issue, and seeing what I'm doing wrong that causes 8.9 to fail.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
