Make static hostname visible via DNS (and dynamic IP)
nl flag

In my local network I manage a csv file which maps MAC addresses to hostnames. This file is used to set the hostname of a client machine when it gets installed, so dynamic hostname assignment is not neccessary. The client receives a dynamic IP address via DHCP though.

Now I want to access the machine on my local network via ssh (ssh user@some_host.local). Since the IP is dynamic, I have to use th ...

Until recently I was able to nfs4-mount a krb5-exported share from one server on the second without any problems. If I try now I get an permission denied and in the nfs server log I always see this error shown below. The filesystems with userdata on the nfs  ...

After adding the following DNAT rule I'm getting connection refused when attempting to curl 172.17.1.1:9000/v1/api:

I've read this post and this post and seems like for curl we need to add an OUTPUT rule for the loopback? But how do we do this for DNAT rules?

How to connect a pfSense firewall into my current setup?

Currently I have an ASUS RT-AC68U router that routes my traffic, provides WiFi connectivity (private network + guest network). There are 4 devices that connect to the wired network via its ethernet ports. It forwards a few ports to internal machines that expose their services to the Internet. It also runs a VPN server that I use to access my network from the Internet.

Bareos: Bscan doesn't recover database entries (Tapes from MySQL new server Postgres Database)
us flag

I had an ubuntu server 18.04 running with bareos and mysql database. Monthly I saved data on tapedrive and everything was working fine.

Unfortunately I had a servercrash without a backup of the dump of the database (I know.)

Now I set up an Ubuntu 20.04 with postgres database, since bareos is not supporting mysql anymore.

My idea was to Bscan my tapes to recover Jobs and to access my data on the tapes. ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
