aw flag

I have a service on a server that communicates over the network with servers using DCOM on dynamic port range 64535-65535. All firewall rules are in place and we can see the traffic passing successfully with no drops. Windows Firewall is also disabled.

The problem I'm having is that the source is unable to connect to a destination server on port 64535. The ping succeeds but TcpTestSucceeded retur ...

App engine role based access for service accounts
us flag

I want to implement role based access on my APIs at a method level. e.g. to invoke a given method on the API the caller must have a 'myapp.api.write' role. I cannot find a way to do this when a service account calls my API, but have a solution for when an end user calls the API.

Front end users are authenticated using Firebase, custom claims are created on the user to define the roles the user ha ...

Why enabling _only_ TLSv1.3 is a bad idea?
in flag

I have NGINX configured to only support TLS version 1.3 However when I go to https://check-your-website.server-daten.de/

It shows the error

Error creating a TLS-Connection: TLSv1.3 found, but no connection via TLSv1.2 possible. Please activate TLSv1.2

Isn't enabling only TLSv1.3 much safer? Why do we still need to enable TLSv1.2?

MySQL connector/ODBC connection error following a DNS mismatch

I have troubles configuring a new MySQL connection with ODBC Data Sources (64bits) utility on a Windows Server 2019. I'm using MySQL Workbench to define remote accesses as follow:

Restart Nginx with Ruby on Rails
eg flag

I made a website that does some complex processes with selenium. For this reason, I feel that the server is very slow after processing. Because when I restart Nginx, the slowness problem disappears.

My question is: How can I restart the Nginx using a route like '/restart-server' ? Is it possible to do this through a controller?

Enable SMTP Port 587 instead of Port 25
us flag

Through my Office365 subscription, I have an SMTP relay, ‘contoso-com.mail.outlook.com’. Currently this only accepts traffic on port 25

I want to look at setting up port 587 with TLS encryption, but keep port 25 running in junction with port 587 for the time being on the same SMTP relay.

My problem is that I'm not sure where my current physical mail server is (if it exists), I wasn't the one who ...

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
