I have to use Vmware. I do not want to use Windows. So I installed Vmwareplayer on my fedora machine. It works. Good. Now I need to import a lot of VMs and Networks from a backup. The VMs are running. But: how can I import Networksettings?

I got a binary registry file called "Networksettings":

How to resolve list of zones locally
kz flag

My goal is to use some of the rate-limited DNS BLs, on a system configured to use public DNS. Environment includes configured BIND and systemd.

Is there a way / how do I do that by using /etc/resolv.conf - /run/systemd/resolve/stub-resolv.conf? It is important that whole zone including all the subdomains is set to be resolved locally.

For example: dig xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.xxxx.zen.spamhaus.org does not wor ...

Reasons for having several data marts instead of only one central data warehouse. What are the tradeoffs here?

What are the reasons for having several data marts instead of only one central data warehouse. What are the tradeoffs here?

According to my understanding, one of the reasons should be the following:

  • If one of the many data marts loses its connection, breaks down or other data marts are available. In the case of the data warehouse system, it would be directly unavailable and the employees would no longer ...

Apache2 SSL only works when virtualhost is removed?

I'm making a website hosted at sparrowthenerd.space, and I'm trying to have it use multiple subdomains so I can run NextCloud, OctoPrint, and a general webpage all from the same IP address. As I understand, this can be accomplished with VirtualHosts in Apache2. However, unless I remove the virtualhost tag from my conf file (below), I get an SSL Handshake Error with CloudFlare enabled, and an SSL protocol ...

I have a CentOS 8-stream server. I was setting up smartmontools to monitor my drives. The MTA is msmtp. To test the setup, I modified my smartd.conf by adding:

Since I did not see any mail popping up, I decided to check the journal:

Is there a way to identify what computer created a file on a Samba share (mixed-environment)?
za flag

Am currently working on a small side project app that uses a file watcher to monitor specified folders for changes. One of the more common uses of the app would be a network share, such as a samba share. An example of one of these uses would be:

  • One Windows client
  • One MacOS client
  • One Linux client
  • One Ubuntu server running Samba service

When the Windows client adds a file to the share, only the MacO ...

Did something stupid that interrupting Ethernet access for "some ports"

I have just installed Ubuntu Server 20.04 on my server, but I executed an automated script without carefully watching, and it resulted in a really weird scenario.

I also have multiple webservers enabled on that server, but on alternative ports. Before I executed it, I can access them easily by typing server's Ethernet address and it's port. But after it, I just don't know why it wouldn't work. He ...

So, here is the plan: We want to install the certification to IIS and once we access https://hrsys.com then IIS wi ...

Domain registrar allows @ CNAME for root domain, is this reliable?

Due to a gap in my knowledge I set up a Windows VM on Azure then I went to Namecheap and registered a domain. Somewhere I got the idea to put in a CNAME record against @ and the FQDN and it works.

In my name records there are literally 2 entries @ and www for CNAME against the Azure VM FQDN. Everything works sweetly.

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
