How to show which resources are connected to (depend on) which other resources in AWS
vn flag

Is there a way to show which resources are connected to what other resources in AWS? Basically the kind of information that would allow one to understand/view the current architecture.

There are CLI tools like list-application-dependencies and describe-network-interfaces but I don't think this provides the information I'm looking for.

For example, say I have an Amazon service like SageMaker, which uses  ...

Whitelist both IPv4 and IPv6 in AWS Security Group
br flag

I am setting up an SFTP server, I want to white list all the IPs in the Security Group so people can connect to it from anywhere.

At the moment I am adding 2 rules to the Inbound rules, one rule for IPv4 and one for IPv6:

Is there anyway that I could whitelist both IP versions in one rule?

Extracting encoded SQL attack statements from IIS/Apache Logs
ng flag

I'm working on a cybersecurity application and one of its features is machine learning to detect SQL injection attacks. I'm in the research phase right now and I'm looking at data collection and preprocessing. So far I've been able to write a script to extract recognizable SQL statements from Apache logs.

I started looking into implementing something similar for IIS logs and I stumbled across an  ...

Detect Windows X server display number from Linux (client of X)
us flag

Our team often connect to a Windows server through remote desktop (RDP). Inside RDP, we use Putty (a terminal emulator) to connect to a Linux server. Sometimes we launch X-Win32 (an X server for Windows) in RDP and run an X application on Linux to show the GUI to Windows. If only one person does this, he can export DISPLAY=[Windows server]:0 in the Linux Putty window and run the X app. If another person ...

I am recently in charge of setting up a new ticketing system on one of the servers, I created a virtual machine in Hyper-V Manager with the Guest 1 option and installed Windows Server 2016. After creating the account I noticed that the network for VM has an "unidentified network" and will not connect to the internet. An external virtual switch was already created on the machine using the second Nic. The ...

Microsoft AD/Kerberos and non-Windows clients (RHEL and Cisco)

I currently manage a small network with mostly Win Server 2016 hosts in a standard Active Directory domain, plus a couple RHEL 7 boxes. We will be going to Win Server 2019 and RHEL 8 in the medium future. Switches and routers are Cisco.

Someone up the chain of command really wants the RHEL and Cisco boxes to be authenticating via Kerberos. My initial internet survey is pulling up various third-pa ...

Does FIN-WAIT-1 mean I was hacked?
dk flag

I'm very new to server security and this is my first post here. Recently, my server has been experiencing many SSH login attempts from unknown sources.

A couple of minutes ago I logged in to the server and decided to checkout tcp sockets by issuing ss -t command and discovered a socket in FIN-WAIT-1 state. I'm not sure what to think about it. Has someone successfully connected?

We have an API server which has details based on serial number of laptop/desktop.

Is there any way to check the details of the machine serial number and gather details from API server based on this machine while running the MDT and select the task sequence based on that automatically and install that specific task sequence?

Can anyone please suggest the possibilities and steps to acheive this.

Will this work? Are there any problems that might result from this?

UPDATE 001:

As requested, here is a list of the repository directory where a new repository appears to have been created. I did not create this. I have files in other parts of the same repo.

Will this work? Are there any pitfalls?

The Stunning Power of Questions

Much of an executive’s workday is spent asking others for information—requesting status updates from a team leader, for example, or questioning a counterpart in a tense negotiation. Yet unlike professionals such as litigators, journalists, and doctors, who are taught how to ask questions as an essential part of their training, few executives think of questioning as a skill that can be honed—or consider how their own answers to questions could make conversations more productive.

That’s a missed opportunity. Questioning is a uniquely powerful tool for unlocking value in organizations: It spurs learning and the exchange of ideas, it fuels innovation and performance improvement, it builds rapport and trust among team members. And it can mitigate business risk by uncovering unforeseen pitfalls and hazards.

For some people, questioning comes easily. Their natural inquisitiveness, emotional intelligence, and ability to read people put the ideal question on the tip of their tongue. But most of us don’t ask enough questions, nor do we pose our inquiries in an optimal way.

The good news is that by asking questions, we naturally improve our emotional intelligence, which in turn makes us better questioners—a virtuous cycle. In this article, we draw on insights from behavioral science research to explore how the way we frame questions and choose to answer our counterparts can influence the outcome of conversations. We offer guidance for choosing the best type, tone, sequence, and framing of questions and for deciding what and how much information to share to reap the most benefit from our interactions, not just for ourselves but for our organizations.
