freshly installed hp smart tank 500 not working

us flag

I have installed a HP Smart Tank 500 on Ubuntu 20.04.

First, I downloaded and installed HPLIP via command line (ver. 3.21.4), I selected the "automatic" option for installation and, picking all suggested defaults prompted, but after replugging the printer, it got stuck with a beep noise.

Later, the prompt for GUI wizard was chosen and the printer was added anyways (but beeping never stopped, so I restarted both printer and laptop).

I can send jobs to the printer, but they actually do not print and they appear marked as "printing". I can see the printer with a green mark in Printers, although when checking device-properties I see "Status: INACTIVE".

Could you please point me out what could be the issue and how to fix it?

Notes:

When launching hp-toolbox, I click on "Diagnose HPLIP Driver" and I see the following warnings:

**INSTALLED CUPS PRINTER QUEUES**

error: Unable to communicate with device (code=12): hp:/usb/Smart_Tank_500_series?serial=CN1183S3DJ
error: Device not found
error: Communication status: Failed
**PERMISSION**

error: 'Smart_Tank_500' Printer is either Powered-OFF or Failed to communicate.

Below is the ENTIRE result of running hp-check:

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
