I've seen all the posts, they don't work. I followed this answer.
I made a bootable USB stick using UnetBootin. Here's what I had to do to get it to actually boot into the USB instead of just using BIOS Boot Prioritization:
- Disable Ubuntu in BIOS Boot Prioritization.
- Boot into the Dell Recovery Tool for Windows.
- Press F2 and let it TRY to load into BIOS yet again, but this time it opens the Windows install tool.
I did what the post said even further, running bootrec /fixmbr
in the Windows terminal I got to from pressing the repair button. Then, I went and pressed Install on the Windows installation screen. It said something along the lines of "Cannot find C:\sources\install.wim".
Am I doing this right? The post said to boot into Windows after running bootrec /fixmbr
but I had no option to do that, only install. I really need help.
I'm running:
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 TI
- 9th Gen - 6 x Intel Core i5-9400 CPU @ 2.90GHz
- 8 GB Ram
- 1 TB
- Dell Inspirion Desktop (I literally can't find the model number.)
Feel free to ask questions if further information is needed.
Please note: Windows isn't on my machine. I used a USB and booted from it to access the install screen. All I had access to was a button saying "Install" and a terminal. I don't plan on dual-booting, I plan on fully deleting Kubuntu after successfully installing. I've downloaded the official Windows 10.iso numerous time and run the bootable setup multiple times to avoid corruption with no avail.
