Kubuntu 21.04 not shutingdown or rebooting when using remote desktop

cn flag

I have a Kubuntu 21.04 machine that I access with NoMachine.

When I try to reboot or shutdown from the launcher menu, I get a back screen with just a cursor. The remote access connection stays on.

Using sudo reboot works properly. The remote access get closed immediately.

I'm having a few other troubles linked with authorization (Kate never ask for root access, just refuse to save files, and Discover is having some troubles get permissions too), maybe there is a link?

I changed a couple of things:

  • Disabled display manager: sudo systemctl disable display-manager
  • /boot is in a separated partition
  • overlayroot is enabled, and I added a Grub entry to skip it when I need to make modifications.
  • Added a reboot option in /usr/share/plasma/look-and-feel/org.kde.breeze.desktop/contents/logout/Logout.qml to select another grub entry. The issues was already present before that modification.

How can I fix the reboot/shutdown buttons?

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
