Desktop sometimes freezes and "jitters" when using Nouveau display driver

az flag

I am actually on Kubuntu right now but I had the same problem on manjaro GNOME as well a few weeks ago.

Under some circumstances, like panning the camera in blender in a bigger scene, dragging some sliders in blender or closing Zoom windows, my desktop kinda freezes and jitters when I move my mouse as if the last couple of frames were replaying over and over again.

I can still hear music I had on or talk to people via e.g. discord and the mouse curser itself is also moving but I can't click anything. My only fix right now is to go to TTY2 and force a reboot.

This problem seems to go completely away when switching from my nouveau display driver to a proprietary one. That is not a permanent solution for me though since the nouveau driver has features i want.

I'm not sure if this is worth a bug report at the nouveau site thats why I'm asking here first.

My system:

  • OS: Kubuntu 21.04 x86_64 (But also on Manjaro GNOME)
  • Kernel: 5.11.0-25-generic
  • GPU1: Intel HD Graphics 630
  • GPU2: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Mobile
  • Laptop: Asus FX553VE

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
