Ubuntu 20.04 - Whirring Noise from XOrg

co flag

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 on my laptop on my SSD. Up until recent Ubuntu updates 1 week ago, the fans and harddrive, memory, CPU all had no issues and no noises at all.

In the last week, now it seems the CPU is whirring as a result of the XOrg process and this periodically starts and goes away as it spikes in CPU consumption.

I have turned off and restarted the computer, in addition to unscrewing and cleaning the fans, to no avail. I am uncertain what is occurring, and I have not successfully found any useful articles across multiple Linux/ubuntu sites on how to resolve this issue.

This is a new laptop, very fast, so there should be no issues with failing memory, CPU or hardware components and it should be software only. Looking for some advice or suggestions.

It sounds a fan issue. When the CPUs spike up the fans grind the enclosure case. So, there is no software remedy.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
