ctrl not working

I use xubuntu 20.04

my hardware is : 700-15ISK Laptop (ideapad) - Type 80RU

One day (maybe after an update, i can't remember) the ctrl button seemed to act strangely, then it suddenly did not work anymore. (Using xev i can see no signal is picked up when i press ctrl but maybe this is normal because of this ctrl not seen in xev ) ;

What is stranger is that both ctrl buttons seem not working at all. shift button works. i may add that no physical damage is visible on the ctrl button, nor when i press them.

I had problems with fr keyboard previously which i recently solved by adding "setxkbmap fr" to my home profile file. But the ctrl buttons were not working (and still are not working) before I made this {home/.profile} change.

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem ? / as i code on this laptop it really is difficult to code without the ctrl shortcuts.

Any help would be very welcome :)

Have a great day,

Have you tried using an external keyboard? This is a very common problem on laptops, keys will wear out and debris can get under the key to prevent the key from working. It's very strange and sometimes keys will suddenly all work and then suddenly certain keys will not work.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
