Unable to change my default web browser

I'm new to Linux and Kubuntu. I have got a problem recently that I cannot change my default web browser either through browser or system settings.

I am using Firefox. Every time I open up Firefox it will always pop up a dialogue saying "Make Firefox your default browser?" so I clicked on set Firefox as the default browser. but it didn't work. I'm getting the same dialogue.

So I went to system settings -> Applications -> Default Applications, and found there are two options in the Web browser drop-down menu: "Firefox" and "Firefox Web Browser." I tried to change it to "Firefox Web Browser" but the browser still shows the same dialogue I was getting earlier. The setting in Default Applications would go back to "Firefox" as well.

None of the settings work. I can't seem to find any useful information about this case online.

Thank you so much if you know how to fix it.

Firefox is already the default browser in Kubuntu and it comes already installed. Did you install another instance of Firefox for some reason? If so, how?

I also had the same issue, but on Lubuntu. [Follow](https://askubuntu.com/a/1355094/1158731) this answer. Maybe you will also find some file like mimeapps.list on Kubuntu.

Hi, @Nmath Yes. The system comes with Firefox. I didn't install any other browsers besides this one. However, Firefox updated itself once. So will that be the cause of the problem?

@Master_Nachi No, you didn't. Firefox is already the default browser. The other answer is about Chrome.

What do you mean "Firefox updated itself"? Firefox is updated through `apt` or the GUI package manager. You should be specific and unambiguous when adding details

I'm very specific. Firefox found a new version and asked me to update it. it's okay if you don't know the solution.

How did you install Firefox? It doesn't seem to be the default installation (when you installed the Ubuntu system), as that one only updates through Software Updater or apt. Check installed programs in Ubuntu Software (that icon is in the dock) to see what's actually installed.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
