Ubuntu 21.04 - gdm3 ignoring my xprofile?

us flag

I currently have openbox set within my xprofile:

#!/bin/bash
/usr/bin/openbox-session

I've configured my profile to autologin within /etc/custom.conf:

[daemon]
AutomaticLoginEnable=true
AutomaticLogin=doc
[security]
[xdmcp]
[chooser]
[debug]

In a Ubuntu 20.04 LTS release this works fine, but in non-LTS 20.04 it seems to not respect this setting and instead autologin's to Gnome/Wayland. I suspect the existence of wayland is causing this, but I'm not sure how to force GDM to use wayland (and/or for wayland GDM to respect xprofile).

Interested in ways to solve this problem.

My solution here was to remove gdm3 entirely and use lightDM, not an optimal solution but given the arrogance of the gnome development team, I'm quite happy to avoid even their login manager.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
