Serious lag in typing after loading Ubuntu 20.04 Lts on older computer

fr flag

So I tried to update an older HP 550-a114 and install Ubuntu 20.04 Lts. Everything seemed fine with the install until I started typing. There is a serious lag between when I type and when it appears on screen. I updated my RAM to 16GB and 1Tb ssd. I thought that this would solve the lag but it didn't. Does anyone have a clue to what may be causing this issue?

can you run `top` in a terminal to see if a process is using a lot of CPU?

You've tagged Unity; which is a desktop that is not included in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop, so are you actually using Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop? (*or why did you tag it? why was upgrade tagged*? as you imply it's a *freshly* installed system)

I suggest that you **try a community flavour of Ubuntu with a light-weight desktop environment, Lubuntu, Ubuntu-MATE or Xubuntu**. It is also much easier to get a good system when you make a **fresh installation** compared to release-upgrading, where old cruft from the previous version can cause problems.

Most people don’t grasp that asking a lot of questions unlocks learning and improves interpersonal bonding. In Alison’s studies, for example, though people could accurately recall how many questions had been asked in their conversations, they didn’t intuit the link between questions and liking. Across four studies, in which participants were engaged in conversations themselves or read transcripts of others’ conversations, people tended not to realize that question asking would influence—or had influenced—the level of amity between the conversationalists.
